Soundtrack to my Life: Another Pointless Game of Tag
Uncategorized February 10th, 2009This lovely little idea tagged me about ten minutes ago. It actually seemed quite enjoyable (and for Mom, rather accurate), so I figured why not, I might as well try it.
I say “another” game of tag because I’m waiting on a couple of things before I finish my 25 random things post, which was the first pointless game of tag.
Most of these will be Rush songs or pieces from Lord of the Rings. I’ll be removing the pieces from Da Vinci’s Notebook unless they’re just that appropriate. I have done it thrice; the first time letting in LOTR songs, and the second time without - and the third time, without Rush.
So, here we go…
Opening Credits: The Breaking of the Fellowship (Lord of the Rings) || The Weapon (Rush) || The Bridge of Khazad-Dum (LOTR)
Waking Up: Cirith Ungol (Lord of the Rings) || Everyday Glory (Rush) || The Gates (Da Vinci’s Notebook)
First Day At School: My Favorite Headache (Rush) || Malignant Narcissism (Rush) || “This Cocaine Makes Me Feel Like I’m On This Song” (System of a Down) [Do not ask me.]
Falling In Love: Freeze (Rush) [How frighteningly appropriate…] || Spirit of Radio (Rush) [Even more so!] || The White Rider (LOTR)
Fight Song: Limbo (Rush) (wuh?) || Nocturne (Rush) [Sweet lord, that’s accurate.] || No Quarter (Led Zeppelin)
Break-up Song: Revenga (System of a Down) || Okay, I have to note that I was given Breath of Life by the MP3 player and I think it’s horrifyingly accurate. The one that came after to actually fit the theme of this particular run was Supertramp’s Take The Long Way Home - but that has nothing on Breath of Life. At all.|| Vicinity of Obscenity (System of a Down)
Graduation: The Uruk-Hai (Lord of the Rings) || Limelight (Rush) [Hell yes.] || Lonely Day (System of a Down)[Scary.]
First Job: The Black Gate Opens (LOTR) || Holy Mountains (Rush) || Chop Suey (System of a Down) [That’s not good. Chop Suey is basically about suicide.]
Life: Entre Nous (Rush) || Lock and Key (Rush) || Sad Statue (System of a Down)
Mental Breakdown: The Taming of Smeagol (LOTR) (stunningly right) || Cygnus X-1, Book I (Rush) (Oh god wow.) || The Forbidden Pool (LOTR)
Driving: God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen (Mannheim Steamroller) || The Trees (Rush) || The Riders of Rohan (LOTR)
Flashback: Carol of the Bells (Mannheim Steamroller) || Circumstances (Rush) || Amon Hen (LOTR)
Getting back together: Peaceable Kingdom (Rush) [How cynical (?)] ||Uxie/Azelf/Mesprit Battle Theme (Pokemon Diamond and Pearl) [You can probably youtube this song but I wouldn’t guarantee it. It’s interesting.] || Hypnotize (System of a Down)
Wedding: Faithless (Rush) [YES.] || Workin’ Them Angels (Rush) || The White Tree (LOTR)
Birth of Child: Natural Science (Rush) || We Hold On (Rush) ||Ash and Smoke (LOTR)
Midlife Crisis: Child of Vision [Supertramp] || The Fountain of Lamneth (Rush) || The Prophecy (LOTR)
Retirement: A Storm is Coming (LOTR) || The Way the Wind Blows (Rush) || Immigrant Song (Led Zeppelin)
Final Battle: The Larger Bowl (Rush) [Iunno about that one.] || Out of the Cradle (Rush) ||Grace to Grace (Geddy Lee) [Hah.]
Death Scene: Manhattan Project (Rush) [Uh?!] || Far Cry (Rush) [YES. YES. YESSSSSS.] || Take the Long Way Home (Supertramp)
Funeral Song: Stick It Out (Rush) || Gone Hollywood (Supertramp) || Ronald McGiygas (God knows who did this - I don’t want to meet him.)
End Credits: Hocus Pocus (Focus) [YES.] ||One Little Victory (Rush) [YESSSSSSSSSSSSS.] || The End of All Things (LOTR)
A few notes for you:
Ronald McGiygas is a mixture of songs from 8-bit video games with guitar riffs, set to an (at best) unsettling distortion of a McDonald’s commercial. It is one of the creepiest and most amazing amateur videos I have ever seen and I personally am shocked I still eat at McDonald’s.
I’ve never wanted children, so it makes sense that most of the Birth of Child songs are dark and unsettling in some way.
And yes, I really do want to die to Far Cry. That would be amazing.
If I were to compose my own soundtrack (I know, that ruins it, but…) It would look like so.
Opening Credits: Fade (Staind)
Waking Up: Concerning Hobbits (LOTR)
First Day At School: Far Cry (Rush) or Natural Science (Also Rush) or maybe Digital Man (Rush again)
Falling In Love: Ghost of a Chance (The only one. The only one. Well, maybe Spirit of Radio was good.)
Fight Song: Trap Phantasm (Capcom) (Dad has gotten a taste of this sucker, and hopefully the rest of you will soon, too. You can google it - Trap Phantasm ZXA Tunes)
Break-up Song: Lonely Day (System of a Down) or Breath of Life (as above)
Graduation: Malignant Narcissism (Rush)
First Job: Driven (Rush)
Life: Ceiling Unlimited (Rush)
Mental Breakdown: Distorted Pain (Electric Music Group “KAREN”) [Japanese. Whoo.]
Driving: Peaceable Kingdom (Rush)
Flashback: Epiphany (Staind)
Getting back together: Hypnotize (System of a Down)
Wedding: YYZ (Rush) or Hope (Lerxst the Winmaster)
Birth of Child: Scars (Rush) …I’m kidding.
Midlife Crisis: U-Fig (System of a Down)
Retirement: Soldier Side (Rush)
Final Battle: Nocturne (Rush)
Death Scene: Get Out Alive (Three Day’s Grace)
Funeral Song: Carol of the Bells (Airus, if I’m not mistaken)
End Credits: Cut to the Chase (Rush)
